SETRA SG 221HDS/Einzelstück/Messebus/Infobus/n. fahrb.

This SG 221 HDS was originally intended for shuttle service to Southern Europe, but remained a one-off; nevertheless, it served as the foundation for two further high-deckers of a special kind: the S 215 HDS and S 216 HDS, which would soon bring Kässbohrer many new customers. Additionally, this coach introduced the 'S' designation: it stands for Super, because these new high-deckers truly lived up to their name. With a height of 3.63 meters, the elevated passenger compartment created even more space, accommodating not only more luggage (16 cubic meters) but also additional service facilities. Extra fuel tanks could also be installed without issue. Regardless of which of the two Super-Setras the bus operator chose, the engineering marvel of these two new Ulm models was that, except for the front section, they were 100% modular components from the Series 200 and shared identical bolted assemblies with other Setra touring coaches. The 216 HDS offered space for up to 16 rows of seats. In comparison, the underfloor cockpit variant provided more interior space. With the Setra SG 221 HDS, Kässbohrer had a vision, but due to the ban on running articulated touring coaches through France, they shifted focus in favor of solo vehicles. The SG 221 HDS was subsequently used as a demonstration and information bus at trade fairs and conferences; with its generously equipped kitchen on board, it became a central meeting point for representatives and customers.
